Surf Lessons

Every lesson begins with an introduction to the surfboard and ocean safety, where your instructor will teach you techniques that minimize error and maximize safety. You will learn how to observe the ocean in a way where you will be able to identify danger zones, such as a rip current, and how to calmly and safely navigate through one. Next, your instructor will go over the anatomy of the surfboard, and help you practice your paddle and pop-up. The paddle and pop-up will take place on the beach, where you will learn how to get to a standing position efficiently and in a fluid manner. Once these skills have been established, we then take it to the water.

Your instructor will assist you in choosing and catching the appropriate wave, while helping to cue you when to pop up at the optimal time. Your instructor will work with you to identify your strengths and weaknesses and coach you to a successful progression in your surfing.

We provide the necessary equipment; however, you are always welcome to bring your own. You just need to show up in your trunks or swimsuit, with sunblock, a towel, and ready to have a blast — a positive attitude and an open mind are keys to ensure a fun and exciting lesson. We hope that you and your family can spend some time with the Surf City family in learning one of our favorite past times, surfing!

We look forward to sharing some waves, smiles and laughter with you and your family, so give Surf City a call and book your lesson today. (843) 945-1237.
